Lie For Me



"I'm not sure I can do this, Albus.  Not even for you."

"It won't be long my boy.  Not long at all.  Only until Pettigrew reveals himself.  You understand, don't you?"

"What about Harry?"

"He's been sent to live with his aunt & uncle.  I'm quite sure Harry will be fine.  Once you're free he can stay with you."

"They'll take my home, my assets."

"I'll protect them for you."

A pause.  

"All right.  Only until that bloody traitor is captured."

"Of course.  Until then, your house and assets will be safe in my hands."

"Thank you, Albus," Sirius said gratefully.


Spy For Me



"We must obtain this information.  Lives depend on it.  Children's lives depend on it."

"You don't understand what's required.  There's a pecking order.  There are... rituals."

"This is why it must be you.  You have the expertise. I trust you completely, my boy."

"I'm gratified, but... I'm not sure I can do this.  Even for you, Albus."

"I'm very sorry to hear that." Dumbledore turned, but paused as the other man spoke.

"If I did... I couldn't report before the Order.  They wouldn't understand."

"Of course!  I entirely respect your need for privacy.  You have my word."

Remus nodded, gratified.


Die For Me



"You take too much for granted, Albus.  I don't think I can do this much longer."

"It's so much bigger than us both, my boy."

"Albus, it's too much!"

The anguished cry echoed in the forest and startled birds took flight.

"You agreed.  Our path was laid out long ago and our trek begun.  No one else can do this.  I trust no one else."

A silence.

"You've more strength than you know, my boy.  I know you fear ignominy, but--"

"Not ignominy.  Infamy."

A chuckle.

"Severus, your efforts will be rewarded.  Of that I have no doubt."
