A quick guide to acronyms or fanfic codes:

  • h/c = hurt/comfort. A long-standing and well-respected fanfic tradition, in which one character is hurt (physically or psychologically/emotionally) and is then given comfort up to and sometimes including sex by a partner or partners. Some h/c stories are extremely violent.

  • non-cons = non-consensual activity, usually sexual in nature, but sometimes just involving coersion and/or blackmail. Some non-cons stories depict the use of drugs and/or include violence.

  • angst = This is a story where the writer delves into the psyche of the character or characters and focuses on their deepest feelings of emotional pain. Angst and h/c often go hand-in-hand.

  • bdsm = Bondage. Discipline. Sadism. Masochism. A bdsm story may contain any or all of these scenarios.
